Finishing grad school, hot and cold vacations..

September 10th, 2006 by jefedela

Well, I finally finished school–once again chants of "no more school for Jeff, no more school", come swirling around in my head.  And it was a good run this time–getting my masters in 16 months.  The future will unfold–I’m not certain how or where but I’ve got some ideas.

I took some time off to relax and enjoy life–something I didn’t get much of a chance of in August, aside from time spent with the gf/going to an incredible umphrey’s and bela fleck concert.  Run for Cover is an incredible show at the Black Cat every year I highly recommend checking it out–I can’t remember if that was in August or July, that’s how much it all feels like a blur to me.

The first trip was the hot trip.  I went with the gf to Curacao which is near Venezuela and we had an excellent time–took 10 rolls of film–mostly I got "overly excited" and took lots of pictures of fish.  We ate at some nice places, stayed in a beautiful place, went snorkeling, biking through the desert, and all around had a good time.  For some reason my inner interior decorator came out and I rearranged a lot of my furniture, although I still have the glorious futon.

The second trip was the cold trip.  I went with my dad to Montreal(which is French for a really cold place).  One day my dad had 5 shirts on and 2 pairs of pants.  It took him around 1 hour to get dressed and he’s a man.  But, seriously it is beatufiul and quite different, Quebec City was very beautiful and a highly recommended place to go visit.  Traveling with my dad let’s me know where I got a lot of my traits–we both have schpilkus and aren’t always very patient.  On the flip side, Le Commensal, was an incredible vegetarian buffet place, I wonder why we don’t have it here in the US.

All in all, I’m back, a little tired and worn out, but on the whole feeling good and of course getting dangerously close to the end of Sunday.

Peace out,
Jeff

Update..

June 5th, 2006 by jefedela

Well, it’s been a long time coming..Life has been too busy, if I don’t stop to take a break sometime, it’s going to mow me over.  Relationship/grad school are going well, thankfully grad school ends in August.  I bought a really comfortable chair–I highly reocmmmend Ekornes/stressless chairs if you get a chance.

Thermostats suck to install.  But the savings should enthrall.  Blues rocks, I’m still a soccer jock, don’t eat your socks…..Invest in small caps, most companies dont know their head from their a*(*)…Don’t eat hats or saran wraps….

Peace out,

Jeff

Drizzit fighting sequence

February 26th, 2006 by jefedela

As the scimitars were raised in the aftermath, hard rain fell down, and you could feel the pulsating heart.  Then, mechanized warriors fell out of the sky.  At this point, the rest of the group had disbanded, due to tax reasons.

Jeff solidly demanded, "I demand that I am Jeff".  The mechanized warriors responded, "we also demand that we are Jeff. "

A blaze of crimson filled the sky, as Jeff moved his scimitars in a precise circle fashion, like a gardener wacking the weeds off of his promising plants.

"When will this terror end?"  After you stop reading too many Drizzit Do’Urden Books…..

Always leave the cold in Feb..

February 6th, 2006 by jefedela

I always recommend getting out of town if you live in a cold area in Feb.  It’s the culmination month of cold, dry weather.  I went with my gf to St. Croix, it’s beautiful there, nice beach, good snorkeling, kayaking, oohh, and the weather is around 70s/80s = good times.  I’m no Jaques Cousteau, but I  took pics of the fishies, and hopefully they will come out well.

If you go, I highly recommend staying in Christenstead, and eating at Paradise cafe for bkfast, but also really eating at Savant for dinner–fantastic food.  Savant reminded me of those little nice places down at UVA.

Upon returning, I know that I did feel some good warmth, and hopefully that will carry me through until March.

In other news, things are going well on the whole, starting a new job today, things are going well in the relationship, and my sister is getting married in a month.

If I can just get through doing my taxes, and grad school–everything will be alright :).

2005 The year in Review

January 1st, 2006 by jefedela

2005 was quite the year.  I started out the year–in one job, then ended up in another, probably more changes coming up.  I had no girlfriend, but ended the year with one, and still have one :)  I applied, got in, and began the glory of grad school at UVA, and it is still going.

Socially, I learned a lot–I still need to work on a variety of things–it’s my goal to be much nicer, and more people oriented this year, less task focused.

Physically, I was hurt way too much, just turning my ankle over and over again in soccer sucked.  This year, I aim to be healthier by wearing better shoes/being more cautious after I get hurt.

Mentally, I feel kind of burned out–I could use a good time at Canyon Ranch.  I resolve to take more baths, and hey, maybe even get a real bath tub instead of the plastic tub I use.

Domestically, I got new silverwere, a new bed, I’m probably leaving things out I’ve tried to blank out.  But, my goal is to come to terms with what the F’s wrong with me–no more domestic things next year.

2006 has lots of good possibilities, with the end of grad school, a new job/work change, maybe a trip to Niece or Australia, and my sister getting married.  May 2006 be good to all of you as well :)

It’s been busy..

Things have been pretty hectic–for school, I have an upcoming take-home test, and group presentation/paper that I need to do.  Trying to keep some semblance of a social life has been good–but, I’ve been trying also to not do everything I could.  Balance, it can be hard to keep.  Overall, things have been going well on pretty much all-fronts, might be some interesting developents coming soon.

Peace out.

Happy New Year and other thoughts

October 3rd, 2005 by jefedela

Well, it is the jewish new year–so if you are/are not I wish you a healthy and happy one.  I decided that I need to work on slowing down, sometimes I try to do too much, rush things.

Things have been going well–work has been more interesting, and school was really cool.  Basically, you need laughter, silliness, and questioning in your life to stay young and mentally alert.  It’s all about balancing the big picture with details–finding that elusive balance of life.

I went out to the 9:30 club the other night, it was too much for me–too loud, too many people–I prefer the smaller places–not as many people, live musicans playing musical instruments :)

Movin’ On

September 18th, 2005 by jefedela

Well, it’s been a hard couple of weeks, with a lot of challenges.  Sometimes I feel like I get into a rut–too much of the same thing without any progression for the future.  Times like this I tend to want to do one thing.  Move on.

So, now I’m single again, it was a good relationship–things just didn’t feel right to continue.  I learned a lot from the experience, and gained a new perspective on people/relationships that will hopefully serve me well in the future.

My personality type: ENTP–Extraverted, Intuitive, Thinking, Perceiving.  Basically, I am an upbeat visionary, which is a pretty good description of myself. Plenty of things to work on.  Check out this website if you’re interested in more Myers Briggs info: http://www.personalitypage.com

Stay cool.  Word.  Peace.

Raul Midon Live, Chinese Soccer, and GF Update

August 28th, 2005 by jefedela

I just saw Raul Midon live and it was incredible–he’s a blind man–Stevie Wonder/jazz/R&B/gospel/latin/flamenco feel.  He just plays acoustic guitar, but he hits the guitar, and sings like a trumpet at times.  It was nice to see such a diverse crowd and hear his uplifting music.

Chinese pickup soccer–near where i live these Chinese guys play soccer–and I have played with them a handful of times.  I’ve never seen anyone so happy to play together, they are laughing, smiling, clapping, it’s incredible.  It’s not a physical game–or an overly serious one–I think I have the most fun playing with them, it’s just the pure enjoyment of the game.

Wow, so this is coming up on record time, and certainly the most amount of time I’ve spent with any girlfriend.  But, I can’t complain, she treats me well, and we enjoy our time together.  She knows when I need to go do things on my own/go running around the block, and understands herself very well.

Life has been extremely busy, but good, I try to keep it all in perspective, it’s hard to let things go, but I try.  That’s part of life, everything doesn’t go your way, you have to accept that you can’t control everything/achieve perfection–but just do the best with what you can :)
